"The
Other Woman" (Sri Lanka)

This is
the first long documentary shot in Vanni after the ceasefire
agreement between the Government and the Liberation Tigers
of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). The film is also the first on Women
in the Vanni. The documentary also shows images of Muslim
returnees in to Vanni, who left in 1990, when they were given
a 48 hour warning to leave Vanni by LTTE. Anoma Rajakaruna
is an Independent freelance video filmmaker, who has traveled
extensively in Sri Lanka documenting the lives of community
groups and in particular, the lives of women and children
in these communities. Her special interest has the exploration
of the multiple roles played by women in the society as well
as the expectations of women by the society. Her films, some
of which have won awards, have been screened at film festival
around the world. (82 minutes)
