"Lanka:
The Otherside of War and Peace" (Sri
Lanka)

The opening
of the A9 highway, which became a symbol of the hope for peace
in Sri Lanka, is the starting point for the film. Structured
like a travelogue, it traverses the northern and southern
landscape of Sri Lanka. and remembering the brutal and tragic
consequences of violence, witnessed most poignantly, as those
who have suffered through this violence narrate their stories
of loss, displacement and survival. Iffat Fatima is an independent
documentary filmmaker based in Delhi. She has made several
documentary films which include The Kesar Saga, which explores
the story telling tradition in the Himalayan region of Ladakh,
Boojh Sakey to Boojh a four part documentary series which
explores the contemporary understanding of the 13th century
Sufi poet and scholar Amir Khusro, In the Realm of the Visual,
on one of India’s most prolific and versatile artist
and designer Dashrath Patel. (75 minutes)
The sixth
and final screening in the festival of films shown at the
ICES on the theme of War & Peace
